ROCK SANCTUARY OF GOD'S MERCY ON MOUNT BUTKOV

Mountain Butkov near Ladce, 765 m above sea level. m., represents an important landmark on the western edge of the Strážovské vrchy (Strážovské mountains). The creation of the youngest pilgrimage site in Slovakia above the village of Ladce is connected with the well-known exorcist and Christotherapist from Malta, Father Elias Vell, OFM. When he visited the mountain in July 2012, he prayed on it and blessed it. He then gave the message: "Build a cross on this mountain!" During 2013, a 9 m high cross was built and consecrated on September 13, 2013. However, it was not enough to just build the cross. The rock sanctuary began to develop at an incredible pace. In 2014, the monument of St. John Paul II, in 2015 the monument of St. Faustíny, in 2016 the Chapel of Divine Mercy and Way of the Cross, in 2018 a 6 m high statue of the Virgin Mary was added, in 2020 the Belfry of St. John Paul II, Family Gate, through which one enters the Stations of the Cross, with a statue of the Holy Family and sculptures of St. Michael the Archangel and St. Anton, the statue of the Risen Christ and in 2021 the statue of St. Jozef. In 2022, a zone of silence was added. There are more than 100 relics of saints and blessed ones in the Rock Sanctuary. The rock sanctuary offers a view of the central Považie valley and can be visited at any time.
