NEDBALKA GALLERY

nedbalka

Nedbalka Gallery is located on one of the oldest streets in Bratislava. Crooked street built on the old city walls from the 13th to 15th centuries connects Laurinská street with Uršulínská street. Even at the beginning of the 20th century, it was architecturally and historically one of the most interesting streets in the historic core of the Old Town.
From the outside, a typical classicist facade of the Austro-Hungarian type, inside a small Slovak Guggenheim. Five circular floors and works by Slovak visual artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. Nedbalka Gallery belongs to the most beautiful buildings of this type in Slovakia. Two prominent Slovak architects, Viktória Cvengrošová and Virgil Droppa, won the Dušan Jurkovič Award for the unique completion of the building in which the gallery is located. In 2012, a complete reconstruction was carried out under the leadership of Ing. arch. Jarmila Kusej.
The collection consists of more than 1,600 works by 98 important Slovak artists. One hundred and sixty paintings and sculptures are displayed on four floors in a permanent exhibition on an area of 1,529 m2. On the ground floor, visitors will find the current exhibition of Ľudovít Fulla.
The story of Galéria Nedbalka began with a collecting passion and a vision that made the impossible a reality. Three philanthropists - husband and wife Miloslava and Peter Paškovci together with Artúr Bartošek - decided to promote Slovak art culture, and thus the project of a large and stable institution was born, which opened a private collection of Slovak art to the public and did it right in the heart of Bratislava. We can say with pride, sincere joy and without exaggeration that no one has yet surpassed it.
The gallery is open every day except Monday from 13:00-19:00.
